Approximately 25,000 residences in southeastern Queensland woke up experiencing outages on Monday morning after powerful weather events impacted the area, producing powerful gusts hitting over 100 km/h.

Massive Ice Stones and Broad Damage

Residents observed giant hailstones as large as 7cm in certain regions. Weather authorities verified that multiple regions across the state had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

Response teams were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the affected regions, with approximately seventy teams deployed to address the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victoria's Storm Challenges

Simultaneously, around 1,000 households in the southern state also encountered energy failures after the metropolitan area saw its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services responded to nearly 600 requests for assistance across the area, mainly for structural issues but also for fallen timber and inundation.

• Hoppers Crossing - various assistance requests
• Wyndham region - over 175 calls for assistance

During the peak on the previous day, in excess of 28k power users in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Climate Outlook

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along significant areas of Queensland's east this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

The following day was predicted as the most rainy day, with ongoing storm activity expected across multiple regions of both regions.

Medical Alert

Health officials warned that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, especially given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This warning comes after previous incidents where comparable situations led to substantial respiratory problems in the state.
