One two-month cruise circling Australia has been cancelled days after the tragic passing of an older woman who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been walking on the tropical location with other travelers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a break. The liner departed without her and went back after some time after the crew discovered the woman was not present.

A large-scale rescue mission found her remains the next day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the tragedy, in coordination with investigators and the medical examiner.

Head of the cruise operator stated that travelers and staff on the vessel were told that the remainder of the cruise had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and prior engine troubles".

Via official communication, he further stated that travelers would be given a full refund, and said the operator was working "to organize the return journeys of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also issued an latest communication, and said they had "delivered a order to the Commander" prohibiting any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the liner in the port city upon its arrival.

Sequence of Occurrences

The liner originally sailed from Cairns on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the voyage at the point of the elderly woman's demise. Lizard Island was the opening port on the journey.

Guests on the ship - who typically pay large sums of money to join the cruise - were transported there for a daily excursion with the option of hiking or snorkelling.

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her relatives was "shocked and distressed that the ship left the island after an scheduled excursion without my mum".

Through her comments, she portrayed her parent as an "energetic octogenarian" who was a affiliate of a walking club.

"Based on limited details we have been provided, it looks that there was a lapse of attention and ordinary reasoning," she said.

She further stated that she desired the examination would be able to determine what "the operator should have undertaken that might have protected Mum's being".

"Based on information from the police that it was a very hot period, and she became unwell on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"Officials suggested her to return, without accompaniment. Then the vessel sailed away, reportedly without performing a passenger count.
