Ten sentenced of digital abuse directed at Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President, Emmanuel Macron.

The defendants faced accusations of disseminating false claims regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing malicious remarks about the couple's 24-year age gap.

The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the convicted individuals. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.

A longstanding false narrative claiming that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has spread widely since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.

This recent ruling in France comes as the Macrons pursuing a defamation lawsuit in the United States of America against political commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced analogous false narratives about the French president's wife's biological sex.

Their lawsuit contends that Owens ignored all credible evidence contradicting her allegations choosing instead to give a platform to established defamers.

Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her show and social media channels, and in March 2024 stated that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.

Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his lycée.

The pair entered into matrimony in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
